Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used mainly in the upper face, whereas Dermal Fillers are mainly used in the lower face. Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used to relax the muscle that underlie the lines & wrinkles on the skin. This causes the skin to smooth out therefore temporarily eliminating or reducing facial lines & wrinkles. Dermal Fillers are used to smooth out and lift lines & wrinkles in the lower face, restore lost volume and add contour.
Each individual has a different pain threshold, however it is a very well tolerated procedure. Most people describe it as a minor scratch/sting. A local anaesthetic cream can be used for added comfort if need be, but is not usually required in most cases.
The results of Anti-Wrinkle Injections typically begin to appear within a few days after injection. However, full results may not be visible for about 1-2 weeks.
In general, results last approximately 3 months. There will certainly be clients in which it lasts longer (4-6 month range) or shorter (2 month range). Duration of results varies depending on lifestyle (diet, sun exposure, alcohol intake, smoking, stress) genetics, skin type and age.
A small amount of Botulinum Toxin is injected into the muscle that creates the wrinkles. This blocks the nerve impulses from stimulating the muscle and as a result, the muscle relaxes as the muscle stops contracting, the overlying skin relaxes and smooth’s out. The treatment is non-invasive with virtually no recovery time. Immediately after treatment, there will be small marks/bumps where the product has been injected, however this disappears within 20 mins.
